College St-Alexandre

College St-Alexandre is a private college that has been established since 1912. They have always been a step ahead of every College in Quebec hence their brilliant reputation. Even in the Web they were pioneer since they were the first school to have an online portal where students could see their school schedule and many other advanced features. Their portal has been in constant evolution since then which pleases the parents, teachers and students that use it on a daily basis.

Their vision

The portal, being outdated, had some minor and major bugs that had to be resolved in order to give the user a better experience when first using it. They also wanted to add or modify existing functionality to make it more user and employee friendly. Some of the long built features were outdated and not as effective as when they were first brought in since the user base has grown exponentially, there were some tweaking issue that had to take place so the portal could get its original speed back.

Our solution

Our solution was simple, we first went through a list of things that weren't working or had to be optimized since these were priority items. From there we were off to evaluate the system and give a rough estimate of how much time it would take to resolve those issues. Once that was done and agreed on we worked on a development machine so any changes we did wouldn't affect the real portal. Once the changes were in place and fully tested to assure that no new bugs were created we moved on to the new modules we had to create or modify.

When all changes were done we prepared the documentation concerning the migration so the IT support there could make the migration at any convenient time which gave them great flexibility over the project and changes.
